CALYPSO -- There's nothing better than to open the playoffs in perfect fashion.
Just ask Haley Brogden.
The North Duplin senior struck out 11 batters and didn't allow a base runner during a 13-0, mercy-rule thrashing of South Creek in first-round play of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1-A playoffs Wednesday evening.
Brogden aided her cause with three hits -- including a home run and four RBI.
Rayanna Koch (three RBI) and lead-off batter Natalie Ramirez supplied three hits apiece. Alyssa Santos doubled during her 2-for-4, two-RBI effort at the plate.
Courtney Brock and Anna Thornton each registered two hits. Brooke Cottle and Maddie Swinson each provided one hit.
The Rebels (15-2 overall) continue play Friday at Perquimans.
