1A BASEBALL PLAYOFFS: Rosewood's Peacock dials up 2-hitter

Jonathan Peacock appeared nearly unhittable Wednesday evening.
The right-hander surrendered a first-inning run and two hits as Rosewood sank East Carteret, 4-1, in first-round action of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1-A baseball playoffs Wednesday evening.
Peacock walked one and retired five Mariners on strikeouts. He threw an efficient 73 pitches -- including 48 strikes.
Trailing 1-0 after 1 1/2 innings, Rosewood took the lead for good in the second inning. Two EC errors sparked a two-run uprising for the Eagles, who plated two runs.
RHS added single runs in the third and fourth innings.
Tanner Bradley emerged as the offensive leader with two hits. Lead-off man Chance Howard, Tucker Chapin, Stalen Massengill (two RBI) and Will Albert (RBI) provided one hit apiece.
Derek Neal collected an RBI.
The Eagles, seeded third in the 32-team East bracket, play host to Carolina Conference foe James Kenan on Friday. First pitch is 6 p.m. at "The Nest."
