PREP DIGEST: JV, middle school news

* Baseball: D.H. Conley 11, C.B. Aycock 2 -- Christian Brady and Blake Dilda (RBI) led the Golden Falcons' offense with two hits apiece. Tyrie Artis, Davis Carroll, Jakob Prebe and Trey Smith (RBI) each had one hit. Brady took the mound loss. Aycock (7-7 overall) dropped to 3-3 against Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference opposition this season.

Middle schools

* Baseball: Norwayne 18, Spring Creek 5 -- The Cobras broke the game open with a 13-run, fifth-inning offensive explosion. Carson Gipson (two RBI), Tyler Horton (two RBI) and Brett Forbis each recorded multiple hits for Norwayne. Hunter Robinson plated two runs. Gipson emerged as the winning pitcher in relief of starter Mason Bailey. Norwayne (9-1 overall) returns to action after Spring break.

* Girls' soccer: Norwayne 5, Spring Creek 4 -- Michelle Roblero punched in all four goals for the visiting Gators, who concluded the season 10-1-0 overall. Goalie Alona Arnette made several saves in the back-and-forth affair that saw both teams combine to score nine goals within a 45-minute stretch. Haley Martin notched a hat trick (three goals) for Norwayne, which improved to 8-1-0 overall. AnnaBelle Watkins and Kayla Spier each provided one goal. Brianna Casey dished out an assist. Cobras goalie Katie Parrish collected eight saves.

* Softball: Grantham 14, Mount Olive 0 -- Shaye Heathcock smacked two doubles and a triple during the Bulldogs' shutout win on Thursday. Riley Hatch just missed the cycle with a single, double and triple. Alyssa Meadows crushed a home run, while Abbey Parker singled twice. Skylar Craig, Allie Lane, Emma Proctor, Madison Holmes and Alyssa James also contributed to Grantham's offensive eruption. The Bulldogs (8-2 overall) are 5-2 in Wayne County Middle Schools Athletic Conference Division II play.
