PREP BASEBALL: CBA's Smitherman belts walk-off home run

PIKEVILLE -- Carson Smitherman swatted a lead-off, walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Charles B. Aycock upended D.H. Conley 8-7 in Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference play Thursday.
Conley blew a 7-2 lead.
Smitherman batted 3-for-5 with with three RBI for the Golden Falcons. Tyler Daniels and Chandler Matthews (two RBI) each contributed three hits.
Luke Frederick, Chris Turner and Blake Gipson each supplied one hit. Nolan Harrell drove in a run.
Frederick started and allowed 10 hits and recorded two strikeouts in 51/3 innings. Jordan Gay earned the win in relief, limiting the Vikings to one run on two hits and striking out two in 21/3 innings.
The teams combined for 26 hits.
Aycock returns to action Saturday against Cardinal Gibbons in the annual Golden Leaf Invitational. Game time is 10 a.m. at venerable Fleming Stadium in Wilson.
