TRACK AND FIELD: Warriors dominate meet

NEW BERN -- Eastern Wayne placed first among the boys and girls teams during an Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference meet ran at New Bern HS.

The Warriors earned first-place times and distances in 12 events.

On the boys' side, top finishers were Yeonte Royal (high jump), William Smith (triple jump), Jaylan Graham (110 hurdles), Rudy Spears (800 run) and Angus Dove (400 dash).

EW's 1,600 relay of Graham, Smith, Marlon Lewis and Dove turned in a time of 3:44.2.

Teammates Amari Brigman and Sharadiant Hamilton combined to emerge victorious in four events. Brigman claimed the shot put and discus, while Hamilton bested the competition in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles.

Kianna Haywood won the 400.

Hamilton, Samiya Blount, Lucretia Boykin and Tiayana Barnes were clocked at 1:51.9 in the 800 relay.

Eastern Wayne returns to action Monday in the 2017 Wayne County Track & Field Championship meet at Rosewood HS. Field events start at 2 p.m.
