SOFTBALL: Shingleton tosses 1-hit shutout

PIKEVILLE -- Allison Shingleton threw a one-hitter inside the circle and Charles B. Aycock handed J.H. Rose a 27-0, mercy-rule loss in Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference play Thursday evening.
Shingleton (2-0) posted seven strikeouts and helped her cause offensively with a 3-for-5, five-RBI outing at the plate.
Taylor Puetz paced the Golden Falcons' offense with four hits and a career-high seven RBI. Hannah Vinson, Cassandra Lassiter (RBI), Logan Medlin (two RBI), Taylor Waddell and Leah Campbell (two RBI) each had two hits apiece.
C.B. Aycock (8-2 overall, 2-2 ECC) visits Eastern Wayne next Tuesday.
