Goldsboro snapped its season-opening, nine-game skid in thrilling fashion Thursday afternoon.
Cameron Roux delivered an RBI single and the Cougars capitalized on Kinston's defensive miscues in a 2-1, Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference baseball contest Thursday afternoon.
Tied at 0-0 through 31/2 innings, Brody Morton started Goldsboro's fourth inning with a lead-off single. Chandler Patrick and Josh Hartsfield each drew a walk to keep the rally alive.
Roux singled to plate one run.
The Vikings' defense surrendered the other run on errors, which put the Cougars ahead 2-0.
Kinston pulled to within 2-1 in the sixth, but could get no closer. Patrick closed the door on his four-hit, 11-strikeout outing that evened Goldsboro's worksheet to 1-1 against ECC opposition this season.
Matt Lewis added a hit.
The Cougars (1-9 overall, 1-1 ECC) return to action Tuesday at South Lenoir.
