PREPS DIGEST: JV, middle schools

JV

* Baseball: Rosewood 10, C.B. Aycock 2 -- Rosewood erupted for seven runs over the final three innings during a non-conference win at Charles Davis Field on Tuesday afternoon. DeVante Phillips paced the Eagles' offense with four hits and two RBI. Patrick Jones contributed two hits. Tanner Capps (RBI), Connor Wise (RBI), Jonah Clark (two RBI), Tanner McKeel and Alex Harper each contributed one hit. Capps started on the mound and yielded two earned runs on five hits and two walks. McKeel registered six strikeouts in 32/3 innings, while Phillips pitched one inning of two-strikeout relief. Davis Carroll and Christian Brady (RBI) combined for four of the Golden Falcons' five hits. CBA used four pitchers -- Adam Brogden, Noah Overton, Trey Smith and Kaleb Moore. The quartet combined for six walks and five strikeouts.

* Baseball: Rosewood 2, Midway 0 -- Tanner Capps batted 2-for-3 with a double and RBI. Tanner McKeel, Coonor Wise and Patrick Jones (RBI) contributed one hit apiece. Alex Harper threw a no-hitter through five innings. Will Albert earned the save with two innings of two-hit relief.

Middle schools

* Softball: Wayne Christian 9, Unity Christian 8 -- Hayli Verme batted 3-for-3 and scored three runs in the Eagles' come-from-behind, season-opening win. Abigail Harrelson started on the mound and posted four strikeouts. Brianna Verme earned the victory in relief with five strikeouts. The Eagles (1-0 overall) travel to Lee Christian on Thursday for a doubleheader.

* Baseball: Mount Olive 11, Eastern Wayne 7 -- Carson Daly emerged as the Chargers' offensive leader with four hits and three RBI. Paul Van Dyke recorded three hits and one RBI. Gage Outlaw contributed two hits and three RBI, and logged the pitching win that included seven strikeouts. Mount Olive (1-0 overall) visits Norwayne on Thursday.

Middle schools

* Baseball: Norwayne 26, Greenwood 2 (3 inn.) -- Clay Matthews slugged back-to-back home runs in his first two official at-bats of the season, and ended the day with six RBI. Hunter Theriac emerged as the winning pitcher. Tyler Thompson struck out the side in the third. Norwayne (1-0 overall) opens the home portion of their schedule Thursday against Mount Olive.

* Girls' soccer: Norwayne 9, Greenwood 2 -- Haley Martin punched in six goals and dished out an assist during the Cobras' season-opening win. Kayla Spier registered two goals. Brianna Casey supplied one goal and one assist. Anna Belle Watkins, Kaitlyn Smith and Ashlie Newby each had one assist. Norwayne goalie Malaysia Johnson had two saves. The Cobras (1-0-0 overall) travel to Mount Olive on Thursday.
