C.B. Aycock 14, Hunt 2 (5 inn.)

* PIKEVILLE -- Logan Medlin swatted a home run and Charles B. Aycock, the reigning eastern 3-A regional champion, hammered out a 14-2 mercy-rule win over Hunt on Wednesday evening.

Medlin collected two RBI.

Taylor Puetz batted 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Mookie Powell added two hits, a triple and an RBI. Hannah Vinson ended the night 2-for-3 with a double and team-high four RBI.

Taylor Waddell hurled a complete-game three-hitter inside the circle. The right-hander fanned two Hunt batters and walked one.

The Golden Falcons (1-0 overall) travel to perennial 2-A power South Lenoir next Tuesday.

North Lenoir 7, Southern Wayne 2

* Rebecca Coor collected Southern Wayne's lone RBI and Caroline Summerlin scored on a throwing error during a 7-2, non-conference loss to North Lenoir on Wednesday afternoon.

Dawn Anderson threw a complete game inside the circle and retired six Hawks on strikeouts. But the Saints couldn't overcome eight errors on defense.

Southern Wayne (1-1 overall) faces Beddingfield today.

Girls' soccer

Southern Wayne 7, North Lenoir 1

* Caroline Best supplied four goals during Southern Wayne's 7-1, non-conference victory over North Lenoir on Wednesday afternoon.

Tara Best, Daylan Wiggs and Macayla Tyndall each tallied one goal.

The Saints (2-0-0 overall) are the guests of Spring Creek on Friday.

Boys' golf

Jones leads CBA

* Bryce Jones shot a season-low 2-under par 70 and Charles B. Aycock posted a four-player total of 298 during a multi-team, non-conference match contested at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course.

Jake Flowers shot a 74, followed by Carl Floars with a 75. Ty Daniels posted a 79 to complete the Golden Falcons' scoring. Austin Greene (80) and Evan Aycock (95) also played.

Eastern Wayne fired a 349, led by Drew Grady's 18-hole round of 84. Noah Forrester and Justin Whaley each carded an 85. Justin Edwards logged a 95.

Ryan Kimble turned in a 77 for Goldsboro, which ended the day third with a 364. Joseph Foye (93), Reid Barnett (96) and Cameron Anderson (98) contributed to the Cougars' four-player score.

Cameron Klages emerged as Rosewood's top player with a 77. Noah Grantham and Dawson Overby also played.

Logan Mason led Southern Wayne with a 99 and ended the day with a 413 team total. Tanner Worth, Thomas Wingate, Lukus Gregory and Shane Tillman also participated.

Baseball

Spring Creek 16,

East Wake Academy 0 (5 inn.)

* SEVEN SPRINGS -- University of South Carolina-Beaufort signee Kaden Geelen batted 2-for-3 with three RBI as Spring Creek throttled East Wake Academy, 16-0, in mercy-rule fashion Wednesday evening.

Christian Yarbrough, Levi Miller, Casey Whitfield (three RBI), Landon Smothers, Austin Reynolds, Matt Dupuy (two RBI), Jensen Barwick and Jake Edens (RBI) each had one hit.

Josh Lebron plated two runs.

Barwick, Reynolds and Miller combined for a four-hitter and eight strikeouts on the mound. Barwick claimed the pitching win.

Hoggard 2, Southern Wayne 1

* WILMINGTON -- Noah Horton pounded out two hits during Southern Wayne's 2-1, non-conference loss to Hoggard on Wednesday afternoon.

Jack Casbarro, Matt Stott, Kolby Anderson and Lance Wise provided one hit apiece for the Saints. Casbarro drove in SW's lone run.

Aryc Chrisman started on the bump and surrendered two runs on three hits in a four-inning stint. Casbarro tossed two innings of no-hit scoreless relief.

The Saints (1-1 overall) visit Spring Creek on Friday.

North Lenoir 9, Eastern Wayne 4

* La GRANGE -- Dylan Meyer and Reed Parris combined for 13 strikeouts as North Lenoir defeated Eastern Wayne, 9-4, in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.

Meyer held the Warriors hitless and logged four strikeouts in two innings of work. Parris gave up four earned runs and filed nine strikeouts during his five-inning appearance.

Landon Ginn (RBI), Tanner Wells (RBI) and Andrew Fricks each had one hit for the Warriors. Wells stole three bases, while Fricks and Drew Barnes each had one stolen base.

Ginn took the mound loss. He yielded six runs (four earned) on five hits, struck out four and walked three in four-plus innings. Nathan Bell threw 11/3 innings of one-hit, three-strikeout relief.

EW fell to 0-2 this season.

Southern Nash 12, Princeton 2 (5 inn.)

* BAILEY -- Princeton registered just four hits in a 12-2, mercy-rule loss to Big East 3-A member Southern Nash on Wednesday afternoon.

Alex Hickman, Anthony Jones, Hunter Tilghman and Adam Crocker each had one hit.

Tanner Flowers, Colby Sullivan and Crocker each worked 11/3 innings on the mound. The trio combined to allow eight earned runs on 15 hits.

Five Firebirds struck out at the plate.

Boys' tennis

Princeton 6, Smithfield-Selma 3

* Top-seeded Jacob Williams won consecutive tie-breakers after dropping the first set, and helped spark Princeton to a 6-3, non-conference conquest of Smithfield-Selma on Wednesday afternoon.

Williams won 1-6, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (10-7).

Garrett Klein, Woodall Lane and Zach Hill each earned a singles point for the Bulldogs. Klein-Lane and Hill-Montrez Levi each prevailed at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, respectively.

Princeton rose to 1-1 overall this season.

Greene Central 6, C.B. Aycock 3

* Perennial 2-A power Greene Central swept the doubles courts and knocked off Charles B. Aycock, 6-3, on Wednesday afternoon.

Matt Hare, Nolan Casey and Brady LaVoie each claimed a singles point for the Golden Falcons. Casey-Sam Andrews dropped a tight 9-8 (2) decision at the No. 1 doubles slot.

JV

* Baseball: C.B. Aycock 12, Hunt 1 -- Christian Brady cranked out a pair of doubles and Blake Dilda stole two bases during the Golden Falcons' mercy-rule road win Wednesday evening. Brady (two RBI), Seth Shephard (two RBI) and Davis Carroll (RBI) each had two hits. Tyrie Artis (RBI), Dilda (two RBI), Noah Honrine, Kaleb Moore (RBI), Jakob Prebe (RBI), Trey Smith and Rowan Watt delivered one hit apiece. The foursome of Dilda, Trey Smith, Brady and Adam Brogden combined for four hits and 13 strikeouts on the mound. Hunt's lone run was unearned.
