PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock's grapplers dropped a heart-breaker to D.H. Conley, but rebounded with a resounding victory over Eastern Wayne during their Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference tri-meet Friday evening.
Down by 23 points, the Golden Falcons recorded four consecutive pins -- one each by Justin Pittman (120 pounds), Chris Parks (126), Nathan Lucas (132) and Jonas Creel (138) -- and seized a 36-35 lead over Conley with one individual match remaining. The Vikings squeezed out a 6-1 decision and escaped with a 38-36 win.
Pittman, Parks, Creel and senior Joshua Wallace (36-0 overall) each ended the night 2-0. The quartet helped CBA mathematically eliminate Eastern Wayne from the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3-A dual-team playoffs. The Warriors finished 0-2 in the 3-A portion of the conference. The league receives one automatic qualifying berth to the postseason.
The Golden Falcons (2-2 ECC) competed in the Jolly Roger Invitational at Corinth-Holders on Saturday.
