* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 76, Wayne Christian 52 -- The Chargers' Jaden Cooper torched the nets for a game- and team-high 30 points on Saturday afternoon. Andrew Gattis scored 12 points and Noah Atwood provided nine points. Wayne Christian's Jayden Young scored 17 points, followed by Blake Tinker (15 points) and Jeremy Bentley (13 points).

* Boys' basketball: Eastern Wayne 46, C.B. Aycock 35 -- Rudy Spears led all scorers with 16 points and the Warriors (6-6 overall) knocked the Golden Falcons from the unbeaten ranks in Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference play. Spears dished out three assists and pulled down five rebounds. Devin Brown contributed eight points, snared 11 rebounds and swatted away five CBA shots. Junious Tyson chipped in seven points, seven rebounds and four steals. Aycock's top three scorers were Jacari Outlaw (10 points), AliJuan Moore (nine points) and Jaylan Robinson (six points). The Golden Falcons fell to 4-1 against ECC opposition this season.

* Boys' basketball: Goldsboro 68, South Lenoir 57 -- Altivon Williams led the visiting Cougars with 26 points. Jyrei Thompson recorded 16 points.

* Boys' basketball: James Kenan 50, Spring Creek 42 -- Demartae Bizzell turned in a sizzling 23-point effort during the Gators' road loss on Friday evening.

* Girls' basketball: C.B. Aycock 40, Eastern Wayne 26 -- Taylor Gay sparked the Golden Falcons' offense with a 14-point outing. Sharon Moorefield poured in nine points. Jenna Oliver (seven points), Heaven Tatum (five points) and Shi Speight (five points) also contributed to CBA's road win.

Middle schools

* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 57, Wayne Christian 29 -- Dylan Brown dropped in 15 points and Cam Gerrard added 14 points during the Chargers' triumph in Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference play Saturday afternoon. Teammate Trent Elliott contributed nine points. Paul Rose put a team-high 10 points in the book for Wayne Christian.

* Girls' basketball: Grantham 39, Wayne School of Engineering 15 -- Alissa Meadows led the Bulldogs with 16 points, while Morgan Kennedy chipped in 11 points. Abbey Parker, D'mia Wright and Alaysia Broadie each turned in a four-point effort. Mary Archibald paced WSE with 12 points.
