Jamal King drained the game-winning shot as time expired, and Wayne Country Day turned back Pope John Paul 68-66 in a Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference game Tuesday evening.
The Chargers trailed by 13 points in the third period and point guard Jimmie Sanders fouled out with six minutes remaining in regulation.
"The guys fought hard to come back and tie the score," WCDS head coach David Flowers said.
King finished with 27 points and five assists. Sanders added 18 points and six assists. Marcus Metcalf tallied 10 points.
The Chargers (12-7 overall, 2-0 CPIC) visit Cape Fear Christian on Jan. 12.
