BEAUFORT -- State-ranked East Carteret exploded for 37 first-quarter points and ousted Rosewood, 85-0, in opening-round play of the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 1-AA (large-school) football playoffs Friday evening.
The Mariners, the East's No. 1 seed, held the Eagles to 77 yards of total offense and posted their sixth consecutive shutout of the season.
Tron Blue paced Rosewood's offense with a hard-earned 26 yards on 15 carries. Senior quarterback Cam Helt mustered just 21 yards of total offense -- eight rushing and 13 passing on one completion to Alex Godwin.
"This has been a tough season only in the fact that we didn't win as many games as we wanted to," Rosewood head coach Robert Britt said. "However, it's been a pleasure to coach a group of fine young men and our one lady who came to work everyday to get better.
"It seemed like every week we were losing another starter, yet our team and coaches never got down. The next man stepped up and did they best they could do. We're going to miss our seniors, but now it's time to get ready for next year."
Rosewood concluded the year 3-9 overall.
