SALISBURY -- Felecity Haves and Ni'Ya Styles pumped in 15 points apiece as the University of Mount Olive women's basketball team defeated Queens University of Charlotte, 68-60, on day two of the SAC/Conference Carolinas Challenge.

Tied at 33-all at halftime, the Trojan women built a seven-point lead behind Hayes and Tommarah Harris early in the third period. UMO continued to fire away offensively and two 3-pointers boosted its advantage to 13 points.

The Royals never recovered.

Havens also pulled down 11 rebounds for the Trojan women, who bounced back from a four-point loss to Catawba on Friday. Senior Kiara Jones scored 11 points, while freshman Hope Tolliver chipped in 10 points.

UMO owned a 43-35 edge on the boards.

Catawba ended the game with an 8-0 run to hand UMO a 74-70 loss inside the Abernethy Center. The Trojan women led by four points with 99 seconds left in regulation.

Havens emerged as UMO's top performer with 16 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Jones provided a double-double -- 10 points, 10 rebounds. Rachel Fehl dished out a team-best five assists.

Mount Olive (1-1 overall) continues its season-opening, seven-game road swing Tuesday at nationally-ranked Virginia Union.

Men's basketball

BARTON -- University of Mount Olive is off to an 0-2 starter after consecutive losses to Peach Belt powers Augusta (82-67) and Young Harris College (94-78) during the annual 45 Second Classic contested at Barton College.

The Trojans' freshman Cameron Robinson and sophomore Dedric Byrd collected 12 points apiece in the loss to Augusta. Saiquan Jamison just missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds in 16 minutes of action.

Augusta controlled the boards 40-33.

Junior Tayon Gleaves delivered a career-high 23 points in the Trojans' loss to Young Harris. Robinson notched 15 points, while freshman Juwan Smith handed out six assists.

Young Harris shot a blistering 71 percent (23 of 32) from the floor in the opening half, and 62.7 percent (37 of 59) for the game.

The teams combined to 7 of 11 from 3-point range in the first half.

Mount Olive returns home Friday for the 51st annual Pickle Classic. The Trojans play host to first-time Classic participant Georgian Court at 7:30 p.m. They face St. Augustine's at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
