WILSON -- Sam Dively has undoubtedly been busy during the offseason.
The Wayne Country Day sophomore is sharpening his skills on the tennis court before the chill of winter arrives.
Dively emerged as the runner-up in the recently-contested 2016 Wilson Fall State Junior Open played at Barton College. He fell 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10) to Peyton Gatti of Whispering Pines in the Boys' 16 Division bracket.
The runner-up finish came on the heels of two title victories.
Dively claimed the 2016 North Hills Club Junior Fall Open title in late October. He dropped just a total of 13 games in four matches, and defeated Durham's Zach Tapper 6-1, 6-2 in the championship tilt.
The victory allowed the 14-year-old Dively to jump 31 spots from 66th to 35th in the North Carolina Boys' 16 Division.
Before his win at North Hills, Dively seized the Park Cross Junior Championship contested in Charlotte. Again, Dively competed in the Boys' 16 Division and upended Logan Trimp of Matthews 6-2, 7-5 in the finals.
Dively posted back-to-back shutouts in the first two rounds.
