WILSON -- Eastern Wayne's Elizabeth Sutton and Charles B. Aycock's tandem of Meredith Jones-Grayson Lane are headed to the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A individual state championships.

Play begins Friday at the Burlington Tennis Center.

Sutton opened singles play with a quarterfinal-round conquest of Corinth-Holders' Bella Duncan, 6-0, 6-0. She fell to Cleveland's Victoria Dixon in semifinal-round play and ended up fourth overall.

The Warriors' duo of Emily Uzzell-Samantha Roux dropped a first-round loss to eventual regional champion Cameron Milne-Logan Adkins of Fike.

Jones-Lane started doubles action with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over White Oak's Samantha Rankin-Aiyana Flores. They defeated Jacksonville's Dominique Van Pelt-Molly Long 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (1) in the quarterfinals.

Rocky Mount stopped Jones-Lane, who eventually claimed fourth overall.
