CROSS COUNTRY: Atwood, Court win respective races

Wayne Country Day's Cole Atwood and Wayne Christian's Paige Court each placed first individually in their respective races during a multi-team meet ran at historic Waynesborough Park on Wednesday afternoon.
Atwood claimed the boys' event in 18 minutes, 55 seconds.
Wayne Christian's Eli Winders (20:35) took third, followed by the WCDS tandem of Connor Bauer (20:38) and Suraj Patel (20:42), who crossed the line fourth and fifth respectively.
WCDS won the team portion with 10 points.
Cody Easom (21:23) and Ethan Knighton (24:12) took sixth and 14th, respectively, for the Eagles. Wayne Christian compiled a three-runner score of 23 -- good enough for third place behind Pope John Paul II.
Harrison Freeman led Faith Christian with a 14th-place effort of 23:54. Four Conquerors crossed the line in successive fashion -- Hayden Voeller (17th, 25:51), Silas Hill (18th, 26:36), Will Edwards (19th, 26:46) and Mason Corbitt (20th, 26:48).
FCA collected 44 points.
Court ran the 5k course in 22:12 and defeated her nearest competitor, Wayne Country Day's Janae Jones, by nearly two minutes in the girls' race. Jones posted a time of 24:05.
WCDS teammates Ashton Gupton (24:52) and Sophie DeAraujo (25:15) ended up third and fifth, respectively. Wayne Christian's Natalie Rheingruber grabbed fourth in 25:03.
The Chargers edged the Eagles 10-13 in the team competition after the Eagles' Maria Memmelaar wound up eighth in 26:21.
Trista Alexander emerged as Faith Christian's top runner with a 19th-place performance of 30:24. Taylor Skinner finished 28th in 35:01.
