UMO: Kaeding leads Trojans' charge with opening-round 72

HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Julia Kaeding posted an opening-round 72 and shared seventh place among individual golfers after day one during the Battle of Old South.

UMO is 16th in the team standings.

Paula Guridi is tied for 49th along with teammate Matilda Warren. Johanna Andersson is among a pack of golfers at 87th and freshman Lindsey Burton, the reigning Lane Tree Golf Club Ladies Champion, is tied for 93rd.

The 18-team field includes six nationally-ranked schools -- No. 5 St. Leo, No. 6 Montevallo, No. 14 Flagler College, 18 Lee University, No. 22 Limestone and No. 24 West Georgia.

Women's soccer

MOUNT OLIVE -- Hannah Kirk scored 52 seconds into the second half and University of Mount Olive dominated Erskine, 5-0, in a Conference Carolinas women's soccer match Saturday afternoon.

Carly Siney Moran, Kaylee Larson, Jess Hickey and Isabella Nunu each punched in a goal for the Trojans. Kara Scott and Amiee Darrow each logged an assist.

UMO keeper Stephanie McCoy posted one save between the pipes.

The Trojans (4-2-1 overall, 2-1-1 CC) owned a 22-6 edge in shots and return to action Wednesday at former CC rival Queens University of Charlotte.

Women's volleyball

BELMONT -- University of Mount Olive earned a split against Conference Carolinas volleyball competition on the road.

The Trojans dropped to 2-2 in the league with a 18-25, 25-21, 17-25, 22-25 loss to Belmont Abbey on Saturday afternoon. Karley Pounds and Mi'Kayla Benson collected 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

Casey Fiechter led four UMO players in double figures with 20 digs. Kamber Skeen had 17, followed by Mackenzie Call (13) and Britni Johnson (10).

Skeen handed out 24 assists.

Mount Olive held Pfeiffer University to a minus-.026 hitting percentage during a 25-13, 25-13, 25-12 victory Friday evening. Pounds paced a balanced offensive attack with 11 kills. Call delivered seven kills, while Johnson supplied six kills.

Fiechter, Call and Johnson each registered nine digs.

Skeen passed out 22 assists.

The Trojans (7-6 overall, 2-2 CC) entertain Barton on Tuesday. First serve is 7 p.m. inside Kornegay Arena.

Men's soccer

MOUNT OLIVE -- Nikolai Iotov collected University of Mount Olive's lone goal in a 3-1 loss to Conference Carolinas foe Erskine (SC) College at Amon Field on Saturday afternoon.

Erskine exited 3-0-0 against league opposition behind a six-save effort from goalie Martin Arias.

The Trojans led 14-13 in total shots.
