NEW BERN -- Charles B. Aycock's Deshawn Owens ran the second-fastest time in program history and finished third overall during an Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference meet contested at New Bern HS on a soggy Wednesday afternoon.
Owens sloshed his way around the 5k course in 17 minutes, 30 seconds -- moving him into second place in school history ahead of Michael Scott, who posted a time of 17:33 in 2004.
The Golden Falcons completed the race without their No. 2 runner, John Parrish, who pulled out with an injury. Sophomore Davis Carroll posted a personal-best time of 18:44, which placed him among the top 10.
Junior Mitch Castorena claimed 11th in 18:47. Hunter Crane (19:10) and Johnathan Bowers (19:46) completed CBA's team score of 60 points -- a distance second to meet winner New Bern.
Eastern Wayne's Justin Neely crossed the line 19th in 19:51. Teammate Yohan Yan ran the course in 22:08, while Zack Witt covered the 3.1-mile trek in 23:38. David Baker turned in a time of 32:15.
The Warriors amassed 176 points.
On the girls' side, Eastern Wayne (127) and Southern Wayne (160) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the team portion of the race.
Complete individual names of runners from EW, SW and Charles B. Aycock were not available.
