Postponements and Games Moved
Thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rains that blanketed parts of eastern North Carolina, including Wayne County, forced the postponement of several games Monday evening.
Weather permitting, Community Christian travels to Wayne Country Day today for a Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference boys' soccer match.
Three soccer games scheduled for Monday were moved to Thursday - Southern Wayne at Goldsboro, James Kenan at Rosewood and Spring Creek at North Duplin.
North Duplin athletics director Ricky Edwards said today's volleyball match at Rosewood has been moved to Wednesday after Duplin County Schools officials cancelled all after-school events scheduled for today.
Charles B. Aycock athletics director said Wednesday's road tennis match at Rosewood was cancelled and will not be rescheduled. The Golden Falcons are scheduled to play host to county rival Southern Wayne for pro-set (eight-game) matches in singles and doubles.

CBA places second
NEW BERN -- Charles B. Aycock finished second overall and Southern Wayne claimed fourth during an Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference match contested at The Emerald on Monday.
Abby Sauls, Leah Campbell and Savannah Strickland each carded 50 for the Golden Falcons, who finished 20 strokes behind match winner New Bern. Anna Williams completed the nine-hole round with a 55.
Cathryn Jones led SW with a 57. Amanda Murphy posted a 58.
Lane Tree LGA
Jeanette Sasser won game-of-the-week honors while competing from the red tees at Lane Tree Golf Club. Barbara Hill won low net and Sherry Minner collected low putts.
Libby Newsome was the GOW from the forward tees. Lou Ellen Flowers and Linda Watson seized low net and low putts, respectively.
Minner carded a hole-in-one on No. 13 on Sept. 11.
Watson took low putts accolades in first flight competition during an Eastern Ladies League tournament played at The Emerald Country Club in New Bern. Cathy Sagar grabbed first net and Sue Glover captured second gross in second flight.
Eileen Henderson secured second net in third flight.
Middle Schools
Volleyball: Norwayne d. Rosewood 25-22, 25-17, 25-21 - Katie Smith had nine aces and two kills for the Eagles, who fell to 2-1 overall this season. Rosewood plays host to Eastern Wayne on Thursday.
Volleyball: Grantham d. Eastern Wayne 25-15, 25-16, 25-14 - Morgan Kennedy served 10 aces and knocked down three kills during the Bulldogs' three-set sweep. Teammates Abbey Parker supplied nine aces and three kills, while Alissa Meadows delivered three kills. Grantham (3-0 overall) faces Brogden on Thursday.
