CALYPSO -- Marshall Medlock scored the game-winning touchdown with 15 seconds left and Chocowinity Southside turned back North Duplin, 28-23, in the season-opening game for both teams at H.E. Grubbs Field.
North Duplin seized a 23-20 lead on William Archer's 1-yard dive and subsequent two-point conversion run with 4 minutes remaining in regulation.
The Seahawks took the ensuing kickoff and drove the length of the field. The drive appeared to stall at the Rebels' 17 until Southside completed a 4th-and-8 pass that put it inside the ND 10. Medlock capped the comeback on the next play.
Kenny Sheppard emerged North Duplin's top rusher with 84 yards and a first-quarter, 12-yard touchdown run on 16 totes. Archer compiled 58 yards rushing and threw a 25-yard TD pass to Terrion Addison in the fourth quarter.
Archer ended the night 5 of 14 for 85 yards. Addison had 55 yards on three receptions. Luke Britt and Dylan Jones each caught a pass.
