GREENVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock graduate Meredith Burroughs, who spent her first two seasons of collegiate eligibility as a standout infielder at North Carolina State, has completed a grant-in-aid agreement to play softball at East Carolina this spring.

Pirates head coach Courtney Oliver made the official announcement Thursday.

"Meredith is a very talented player," Oliver said. "She has gained a lot of experience playing at a high level at N.C. State and has been quite successful. She is a proven run producer who will fit perfectly in the middle of our order."

Burroughs was a key part of the Wolfpack lineup in 2016 as she was one of just four players on the squad to start all 56 games. She experienced action primarily at first base, but also made a start in right field and pitched 13.1 innings with two starts in the circle.

Displaying some pop at the dish, Burroughs clubbed 13 home runs -- a mark that was second on the squad and tied for seventh in the Atlantic Coast Conference -- and compiled .584 slugging percentage. She finished the season with a .279 batting average to go along with 43 hits, 31 runs scored and 40 RBI.

Burroughs showed a knack for working the count in her favor as she drew 35 walks -- the fifth most in the ACC. She also tallied 11 multi-hit games and 10 multi-RBI games and had a 12-game streak of reaching base safely.

As a freshman, Burroughs played in all 57 games as the Wolfpack won the Harrisonburg (Va.) Regional and squared off against Pac-12 power Oregon in the Super Regional during the 2015 NCAA Division I tournament. She hit her first collegiate grand slam that season during a 9-4 win over Florida State.

While at Aycock, Burroughs earned MaxPreps All-America honors as a sophomore and senior. She was a four-time all-state, all-area and all-conference performer. In 2012, Burroughs garnered Most Valuable Player accolades when she helped lead the Golden Falcons to the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A state championship -- the first in program history. Burroughs swatted 19 home runs that season and finished with 31 for her career.
