The Wayne County Public Schools office issued a press release at noon stating that all outdoor activities are cancelled today (Tuesday) due to the extreme temperatures and heat indexes forecast for this afternoon.
Only indoor sports -- volleyball and cheerleading -- are permitted to either play or practice.
"I know the temperatures will drop after dark, but that will be after 8 p.m. The Superintendent (Dr. Dunsmore) does not want any outdoor activities on any campuses today," said Dean Sauls, assistant superintendent for support services/athletics/HPE.
"We will address this situation again tomorrow. Thank you for understanding that safety is our priority during this heat wave."
