DUDLEY -- Tony Stark's Iron Legion takes a hitting in Marvel movies.

Wayne County Post 11's Senior Legion baseball team fires the hits for a more entertaining summer -- outside.

The team -- including players from Southern Wayne, Spring Creek, Eastern Wayne, Charles B. Aycock, Rosewood and Princeton -- produced 13 hits in a 7-2 victory over West Craven at Southern Wayne on Friday evening.

The hits were sporadic through nine innings, but Wayne County head coach Jason Sherrer was satisfied with the final result.

"We got up two-nothing and just kind of sailed through," Sherrer said. "We couldn't put some pressure on defense...we made some base runner errors. Luckily, it didn't hurt us in the end."

In the bottom of the first inning, Eastern Wayne's Zack Smith slammed the ball to left field and brought in teammate Lee Daniels. Spring Creek graduate and University of North Carolina sophomore Chad Spurgeon sent home Southern Wayne's Jack Casbarro on the next hit.

Wayne County sat at 2-0 over West Craven for four innings, while the pitching battle heated up on the mound.

Southern Wayne pitcher Lance Wise threw two strikeouts before the fifth and allowed no runs. West Craven pitcher Brandon Bradley threw two strikeouts as well and allowed only two runs, but the next inning loomed around the corner for Bradley.

Casbarro hit a line drive past third base, and Daniels crossed the plate for Wayne County's third run. Spurgeon socked the ball to West Craven's shortstop, and Casbarro picked up the fourth run of the game.

Eastern Wayne's Carlyle Smith took the mound at the top of the sixth and allowed West Craven's first run of the game from Luke Magyar. However, Smith's teammates had his back in the seventh.

Casbarro scored off a hit from CBA's Chandler Matthews, and Matthews followed after a slam from Spurgeon to left field.

Wayne County led 6-1.

Magyar handed West Craven its second run of the night at the top of the eighth.

Daniels sprinted home for Wayne County's final run and opened the door for Eastern Wayne's Tanner Wells to close out the ninth inning.

Wells launched two strikeouts, giving Wayne County its first win of the season.

"I thought Lance pitched fine," Sherrer said. "I thought he threw some strikes and got a lot of deep counts. He couldn't stay in too long. Carlyle came in and did the same thing. He (Wells) came in...he hadn't pitched in a while, but he'll throw tomorrow."

Wayne County played host to Apex on Saturday.
