MOUNT OLIVE -- Three University of Mount Olive lacrosse players have been selected to play in the North-South Division I-II All-Star Game, which will be hosted by Cabrini (Pa.) College.
Matt Shields is the men's selection for the May 27 contest.
The record-setting senior is UMO's all-time career leader in total goals (147), single-season (47), assists (83), points (72) and career (230). He ranked 19th among Division II players in man-up goals this spring.
Shields' older brother, Dan, played in the All-Star Game last season.
The Trojan stickmen concluded the year 13-5 overall, including an opening-round loss to two-time defending national champion Limestone in the South Region playoffs last Saturday.
It was UMO's first-ever postseason bid in the program's four-year history.
On the women's side, Hannah Knight and Claire Wigler will participate in their all-star game June 4 at Cabrini (Pa.) College.
Wigler earned IWLCA all-South Region second-team accolades and graduates as the all-time career assists leader (67). She moved into first place after posting a single-game record six assists against Lees-McRae on April 23.
Selected the Conference Carolinas offensive player-of-the-year, Wigler ranked among the top five in goals scored (55), assists (38), points (93) and shots (101) in league play.
UMO goalkeeper Knight ranked ninth nationally in goals-against-average (6.75) and eighth in save percentage (.518) between the pipes. She was chosen a first-team all-Conference Carolinas selection and also garnered recognition on the Conference Carolinas all-tournament team.
Knight and Wigler become the second and third players to represent UMO in the all-star game. Katie McGovern played for the South All-Star team in 2015.
