SANFORD -- Grace Christian connected on the game-winning goal with 15 minutes left in regulation, and handed Wayne Country Day a season-ending, 3-2 loss in quarterfinal-round play of the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A playoffs Wednesday evening.
Down 1-0, the Chargers Jasmine Jones provided the equalizing goal just before halftime.
Grace punched in two second-half goals, including the deciding mark -- a header diverted across the goal from a freek kick.
"It was a solid performance from our girls and at times the game could have gone either way," WCDS head coach Steve Ellis said. "When the opposition coach commends our girls on the improvement throughout the season, it shows the hard work they have put in.
"They gave everything tonight and (I) couldn't have asked for more."
