Wayne Christian advances in NCISAA 1A baseball playoffs

STATESVILLE -- Hunter Burt cranked four hits and drove in two runs during Wayne Christian's 11-1 conquest of Statesville Christian in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A playoffs on Tuesday afternoon.
The 10th-seeded Eagles (7-7 overall) travel to second-seeded Lawrence Academy in second-round play. A game time has not been determined.
Ryan Kennedy supplied three hits and an RBI. Hunter Foster batted 2-for-5 with two RBI. Will White (2-for-4, two RBI), Jaxon Anderson (1-5, two RBI) and Seth Harrell also contributed offensively.
Wayne Christian led 2-1 after five innings. The Eagles scored a combined nine runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Foster emerged as the winning pitcher. He scattered four hits, allowed one earned run, logged nine strikeouts and held the Lions scoreless after the first inning.
The Eagles won their fourth consecutive opening-round playoff game and have an all-time record of 11-12 in the postseason since 2004.
