FAYETTEVILLE -- Mitch Turnage claimed his first pitching decision of the season and John Strickland notched the save during Wayne Country Day's 8-6 conquest of Freedom Christian on Thursday afternoon.
In his first start, Turnage yielded four runs (three earned) on four hits, two walks and two hit batsmen. He fanned two FCA batters. Strickland hurled two innings of three-hit, one-strikeout relief.
"Mitch did a great job," WCDS head coach Michael Taylor said. "Coming into tonight's game he had only thrown three total innings. Strickland did a great job in the sixth and seventh innings throwing strikes and letting his defense play behind him.
"We finished with only one error."
Turnage (RBI), Drew Barnes and Jon Bryan pounded out two hits apiece for the Chargers. Parker Smith (RBI) and Amane Godo (three RBI) each provided one hit.
Strickland and Zach Barfield each drove in a run.
Wayne Country Day (9-6-1 overall) entertains Ahoskie Ridgecroft next Tuesday.
