Southern Wayne topples Wilson Fike

WILSON -- Aryc Chrisman fired a complete-game five-hitter as Southern Wayne dumped Wilson Fike, 7-2, during opening-day play of the third annual Golden Leaf Invitational.
Chrisman yielded two earned runs (one earned), walked two and retired three Fike batters on strikeouts.
Tyler Brock batted 2-for-2. Derek Holsinger, Jack Casbarro Noah Morton provided one hit apiece for the Saints. Chrisman drove in two runs. Josh Jernigan and Carter Jones each had an RBI.
Southern Wayne broke the game open with a four-run, third-inning charge. Coach Jackson Massey's club capitalized on four walks, a hit batsman and an error.
The Saints return to action Monday against Parrott Academy, the reigning N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Class 2-A state champion. First pitch is 3 p.m. at Fike High School.
