MOUNT OLIVE -- Tyler Phillips doubled home the game's lone run as Erskine (S.C.) defeated University of Mount Olive, 1-0, in Conference Carolinas play Saturday afternoon.
Held without a hit through three innings, the Trojans threatened in the fourth. David Mayo picked up a one-out single. Brett Lang and Joe Koehler drew back-to-back walks, which loaded the bases.
Erskine coaxed a flyout from the next UMO batter and its defense turned an inning-ending double play, catching Mayo at third base. The Trojans (15-13 overall, 8-7 CC) never threatened again.
Austin Hutchison (4-2) endured the mound loss. He logged 10 strikeouts and yielded nine hits in a complete-game effort.
