* Baseball: Wayne Country Day 17, Faith Christian 0 -- DJ Drew and Cooper Edmundson each turned in a two-hit performance during the Chargers' victory Thursday afternoon. Cole Brewer tripled.
* Baseball: C.B. Aycock 12, North Lenoir 2 (5 inn.) -- Jordan Gay (two RBI), Luke Frederick (two RBI) and Cody Whaley -- all sophomores -- each pounded out three hits during the Golden Falcons' mercy-rule win. Carson Smitherman (three RBI) and Blake Gipson (two RBI) each had two hits. Whaley threw a complete-game two-hitter and retired NL batters on strikeouts on the hill.
Middle schools
* Softball: Wayne Christian 18, Neuse Charter 8 -- Brianna Verme doubled and Abbe Harris tripled as part of Wayne Christian's 12-hit attack Thursday evening. Abigail Kornegay recorded five strikeouts and limited Neuse Charter to one hit inside the pitcher's circle. Hayli Verme posted two strikeouts and Verme struck out the last batter to end the mercy-rule affair. Wayne Christian (1-2 overall) visits Cape Fear Christian for a doubleheader on Monday.
* Baseball: Norwayne 22, Greenwood 1 -- Hunter Theriac and Christian Brady each belted a home run to pace the Cobras' 19-hit attack. Ben Jones emerged as the winning pitcher. Noah Overton and Noah Honrine helped Jones on the mound. Norwayne (2-0 overall) is the guest of Spring Creek on Monday.
* Girls' soccer: Roswood 4, Spring Creek 2 -- Abigail Villa notched two goals for the Eagles, while teammates Riley Ryan and Malika Haines each scored one goal. Sequoia Davis dished out two assists. Morgan Haswell had one assist. Karina Parra punched in two goals for the Gators. Taylor Smith provided one goal. Rosewood (2-0-0 overall) is the guest of Eastern Wayne on Monday, while Spring Creek faces Norwayne the same afternoon.
* Girls' soccer: Dillard 3, Wayne School of Engineering -- Dyamond George posted a hat trick (three goals) for the unbeaten Tigers. Aaliyah Carroll and Shayla Greene each had one assist. Goal keeper Octavia Burns recorded six saves. Dillard (2-0-0 overall) travels to Grantham on Monday.
* Girls' soccer: Norwayne 3, Greenwood 0 -- Colleen Jones delivered two goals and Haley Martin added one in the Cobras' win. Morgan Quinn and Kayla Spier logged one assist apiece. Goal keepers Taylor Smith and Katie Parrish combined for six saves and the shutout. Norwayne (2-0-0 overall) continues play Monday against Spring Creek.
