Atkins scores 24 points in Saints' road loss

WINTERVILLE -- Zaria Atkins pumped in 24 points as Southern Wayne dropped a quarterfinal-round game to South Central, 50-48, during the Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference tournament Tuesday evening.
Atkins added seven rebounds, seven steals and blocked three shots. Iyahna Bess contributed 12 points.
The Saints dropped to 8-15 overall and have qualified as the ECC's No. 2 seed in the 3-A playoffs. The NCHSAA is expected to release the pairings on Saturday.
