Goldsboro's Sterling Jones airballed a free throw attempt.

The Cougars led by just two points in the fourth quarter.

A senior, Jones overcame the missed free throw and scored four points in the final quarter of Goldsboro's 58-45, senior night victory over Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference foe Greene Central. It was the regular-season finale for both teams.

Goldsboro faces South Lenoir in the ECC tournament today. Game time is 6 p.m.

"I was just like, 'It's not fair for me to be a leader on the team and not show effort'. Even when I airballed the free throw I was still like, 'I still got to keep playing'," Jones said.

The Cougars (13-8 overall, 7-3 ECC) led the Rams, 26-14, at halftime.

But Greene Central turned up the full-court pressure and knocked down two 3s in the third quarter. The Rams tied the game with six minutes left in regulation.

Jones ran down the court to score two points off of an assist from senior Tyona Moses. Jones then scored on an offensive putback.

Moses assisted senior Khamryn Brown with a 3-pointer, and the Cougars led Greene Central, 51-37, with two minutes remaining in the game.

Moses threw the ball to sophomore Destiny Lucas in transition for a layup, and Moses assisted Jones with the final two points of the evening.

"I told my guys to play defense to the end. We were able to get some key rare buckets, find some open girls in the paint (and) get a couple of rebounds," said Goldsboro head coach LaTina Bullock, who desires her team to play with the same intensity today.

"Basically, we have to do what we did when we beat them (South Lenoir) the first time. Defense will create offense."

Moses led all scorers with 15 points. Senior Tawana Jones scored 10 points. Brown ended the game with eight points, and Lucas collected eight points. Sterling Jones and freshman McKayla Roberts scored six points apiece.
