PREPS DIGEST: JV, middle schools

* Boys' basketball: Rosewood 51, Princeton 47 -- Conner Vernon paced the Eagles' offense with 14 points. Marquail Vaughn and Jonathan Peacock contributed 13 and 11 points, respectively. Rosewood (5-5 overall) improved to 5-1 in Carolina 1-A Conference play this season.

* Girls' basketball: Southern Wayne 40, Eastern Wayne 33 -- Rickeal McCullen emerged as the Saints' top scorer with 13 points. Machiah Moore collected nine points, while Zaria Coleman contributed six points. Oates led Eastern Wayne with 13 points. Southern Wayne (11-5 overall) rose to 3-3 in Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference play.

* Boys' basketball: J.H. Rose 26, C.B. Aycock 22 (OT) -- Marquez Farmer scored seven points in the Golden Falcons' road loss. Muhammad Brooks scored five points. Tayquan Hampton and Damone Greenfield supplied four points apiece.

* Girls' basketball: C.B. Aycock 21, J.H. Rose 18 -- Taylor Gay pumped in eight points for the Golden Falcons, who picked up an Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference road win Tuesday. Sharon Moorefield added seven points. Kania Slocum, Morgan Casey and Darilyn Lancaster each had two points.

* Boys' basketball: Cape Fear Christian 72, Wayne Country Day 69 -- Marcus Metcalf delivered a 38-point performance in the Chargers' non-conference home loss Tuesday afternoon. Will Rose posted 11 points. WCDS (13-3 overall) faces Christ Covenant today.

* Girls' basketball: Wayne Country Day 30, Cape Fear Christian 10 -- Lexi Jeffreys poured in 14 points as the Chargers remained unbeaten in nine outings this season. WCDS takes on Parrott Academy today.

* Boys' basketball: Goldsboro Heat 39, Pitt County 27 -- Hayden Perry tallied 11 points and snared six rebounds for the Heat. Teammate Hayden Portela chipped in 10 points, while Metrell Wooten scored eight points. Luke Parks supplied six points and six rebounds. Goldsboro (3-7 overall) travels to South Wake on Friday.

* Boys' basketball: Northwood Temple 82, Wayne Christian 72 -- Austin Kornegay (27 points, 19 rebounds) and Logan Jackson (16 points, 11 rebounds) paced the Eagles' attack. Will White provided eight points and handed out five assists. Micaiah Singletary chipped in six points.

* Boys' basketball: Spring Creek 58, North Duplin 49 -- Xavion Garcia pumped in 21 points for the Gators. Teammate Allen Hickman supplied 14 points.
