Q: Why are you going to St. Andrews?

A: I really like the student to ratio, so I can have 1-on-1 time instead of being in a huge lecture hall with 800 different students. It's a small school, which is what I really like. I think there are 800 students (total) and 95 percent of them are athletes. You'll be surrounded by everyone who wants to get better and they'll make you better.

Q: Did you look anywhere else?

A: I tried Barton. I went to one of their baseball camps. The first ground ball they hit me, I dislocated my knee and had to pop it back in.

Q: How did St. Andrews find out about you and how did you find out about them?

A: My brother went to a UNCW camp and one of their scouts were at the UNCW camp. They wanted me and Kaden to go to their camp, so we both did. Their recruiting coach, after the camp, said they were going to send me an offer. I was a little surprised.

Q: What did you have to do during the tryout?

A: We had to run a 60 (dash), throw ground balls from first to third with a radar gun ... usual pro-style workout. I've played third, but first base is where I feel most comfortable.

Q: What have you been doing in the offseason to prepare for this year?

A: Actually, our baseball coach did cross country this year, so anyone who wasn't playing football ran cross country. I got to run cross country and that was pretty fun. Other than that, it's been some sprints and a lot of infield to where I feel comfortable catching any ball anywhere.

Q: Where do you feel like you have to improve as a player so you can succeed once you get to St. Andrews?

A: I think I just need to learn how to adapt myself because I've been playing with these boys at SC since I was 8 or 9 years old. Just being in a new environment will be fun.

Q: You guys had one of the best seasons in school history a year ago. How do you think that's going to help you guys this year?

A: I think having our 4 leaders (seniors last year) pushing us through as juniors, learning from them to lead a team and how to pump everybody up so we can keep winning.

Q: What kind of team do you think you guys are going to have?

A: We're going to have a good team this year. Obviously, we have our 4 starters that we lost. Everybody has stepped up, hitting the weight room and trying to get better this year. Pitching is going to be good because we have Will Rouse and he was our No. 1 pitcher last year.

Q: Will you step back into a starting role?

A: I hope so. I'll get a bettter feel of everything, get conditioned to play longer and reach my full potential.
