JACKSONVILLE -- Lexi Mercer knocked down 24 points and surpassed the 2,000-point mark for her career during Rosewood's 64-21 romp over Richlands in opening-round play of the East Coast Christmas Classic on Monday afternoon.
Mercer accomplished the feat on a 3-pointer with 1:47 left in the opening half. The Eagles led 35-8 at that point.
"It's pretty great," said Mercer, who ironically scored her 1,500th point on a 3-pointer. "I'm glad to be able to do it with such a great team and coach (Rick Grantham) by my side. These past four years have been a really fun journey for us. We've been doing really great things and breaking a lot of records at our school, taking our team to the final four two years back to back, which we have never done.
"So, it's pretty awesome to be able to do it with this club."
Mercer just missed a triple-double with eight rebounds and eight steals. Jala Holloman contributed 10 points, while junior Jessica Conger provided eight points.
Nekia Williams pulled down 10 rebounds. Alyssa Garrison collected nine steals.
Rosewood (6-2) overall faced Clinton at 4 p.m. today.
