SNOW HILL -- Greene Central built a 22-point lead after one quarter of play and cruised past Goldsboro, 56-0, in the Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference regular-season finale for both teams Friday evening.

"They're big, physical and fast," Goldsboro head coach Bennett Johnson said of the once-beaten Rams. "Their defense is very, very good. Their offense is great. I don't think we necessarily played our best football."

The Cougars played without starting quarterback Na'shir Bowden, who suffered a season-ending ankle injury that included torn ligaments. He is off his feet for four weeks. Back-up quarterback Dayquell Dawson remained benched due to concussion-like systems.

Johnson called up third-string and JV quarterback Brody Morton to operate Goldsboro's offense. The freshman completed five passes for 28 yards and rushed for another 10 yards. Ronnie Tookes hauled in three receptions for 24 yards. Morton also hooked up with Jacob Owens and KJ Austin.

"Brody really did a great job, had a great attitude and kept on fighting," said Johnson, whose team amassed 156 yards of total offense. "It was a pleasure to watch him play four quarters and get after it against such a great opponent."

Jamaal Wilson led the ground attack with 59 yards.

Senior linebacker Sterling Dodson paced the Cougars' defense with eight tackles. Rodney Dodson and Kori Reid posted six stops apiece. Jameel Larkins and Tookes each logged four tackles.
