PIKEVILLE -- Richlands notched the game-winning goal in the 80th minute and stunned seventh-seeded Charles B. Aycock, 4-3, in second-round play of the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A playoffs on Saturday evening.
The teams battled to a scoreless draw at halftime.
The Golden Falcons' Coe Jordan received a short corner and flicked the ball to teammate Dallen Edwards, who headed the ball into the goal just 10 minutes into the second half.
Richlands, the No. 23 seed, moved in front 2-1 before Aycock's David McIver converted a game-tying penalty kick with 13:50 to go in regulation. Teammate Hampton Tilghman provided the go-ahead goal just 2 1/2 minutes later.
The Wildcats responded with two more goals to deny the Golden Falcons (17-5-2 overall) back-to-back playoff victories for the first time since 2007.
