TOPSAIL -- Darwin Sure notched a hat trick (three goals) for the second consecutive game, and Southern Wayne turned back Topsail, 3-2, in first-round play of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3-A playoffs on Thursday.
It was a rematch of last year's opening-round playoff game won by Topsail -- ironically -- with the same result.
Sure scored on assists from Shyquell Kornegay and Juan Trejo. He converted a game-winning free kick late in the second half.
The 25th-seeded Saints (11-6-4 overall) travel to ninth-seeded Terry Sanford (19-5-0) on Saturday. A game time has not been set.
