WINTERVILLE -- Emily Uzzell rallied from an opening-set deficit and helped Eastern Wayne shut out South Central, 9-0, in an Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference match Thursday afternoon.
The No. 3 seed, Uzzell trailed Marisa Crisp 4-1 in the first set. She reeled off five consecutive games and eventually claimed the match 6-4, 6-4. Joining Uzzell in the win column during singles play were Elizabeth Sutton, Brennan Dove, Morgan Agner, Samantha Roux and Bella Bowen.
Sutton has dropped just two games overall in her last four sets of play.
The Warriors received doubles points from Sutton-Uzzell, Dove-Agner and Roux-Bowen.
"I was pleased with how we rebounded after losing to Aycock on Tuesday," EW head coach Craig Hassell said.
The Warriors (4-4 overall, 4-3 ECC) play host to New Bern next Tuesday.
