PREPS DIGEST -- JV, middle schools

JV

* Volleyball: Wayne Country Day d. Pope John Paul II Catholic HS 27-25, 25-16 -- Graysen Jeffreys paced the Chargers with six aces, three kills, three digs and one assist. Kyara Drew logged five aces and one kill. Katie Strickland supplied three aces, one kill, three digs and two assists. Madison Britton recorded three kills and five digs. It was the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A/2-A opener for both teams. WCDS (4-6 overall, 1-0 CPIC) plays host to Freedom Christian next Tuesday.

* Volleyball: Lakewood d. Rosewood 25-20, 25-18 -- Braylee Butts had four assists and one kill for the Eagles. Allana Atwell and Jala Holloman posted one kill apiece. Toree Marak registered two kills and two service aces. Rosewood (5-5 overall) fell to 3-2 in Carolina 1-A Conference play this season.

* Boys' soccer: Wayne Country Day 1, Northeast Charter Prep 0 -- Marquise Newell knocked in the lone goal for the Chargers, who climbed to 8-0-1 overall this season. Bash Attiah recorded the assist.

* Volleyball: North Duplin d. James Kenan 25-23, 8-25, 25-21 -- The Rebels (3-6 overall) won their first Carolina 1-A Conference game of the season.

* Volleyball: North Lenoir d. Goldsboro 25-6, 23-25, 25-15 -- Addie Shirley connected on two kills for the Cougars. Fayth Serlick picked up 10 digs. McKayla Roberts served four aces.

* Volleyball: C.B. Aycock d. New Bern 25-15, 22-25, 25-21 -- Hannah Carter served three aces and collected 19 digs on defense and dished out 15 assists in the Golden Falcons' three-set win. Taliyah Green cranked out 13 kills, while Daelyn Brock added five kills. Katy Price and Caitlyn Frazier recorded four and three solo blocks, respectively.

Middle schools

* Football: Norwayne 30, Grantham 14 -- Alijuan Moore hauled in touchdown passes from Blake Dilda and Xavier Eutsey during the Cobras' win Thursday afternoon. Dilda and Eutsey each rushed for a TD. Norwayne's defensive leaders were Tyler Hughes (interception), Seth Shephard (forced fumble and recovery, and team's leading tackler). The Cobras (2-0 overall) entertain Eastern Wayne next Thursday.

* Volleyball: Norwayne d. Rosewood 25-21, 25-18, 24-26, 25-27, 15-8 -- Alyssa Smothers served six aces for the Eagles. Norwayne remained unbeaten in four matches this season. Rosewood plays Wayne School of Engineering on Monday.

* Boys' soccer: Rosewood 3, Norwayne 1 -- Logan Mitchell collected two goals in the Eagles' victory on the Wayne County Middle Schools Athletic Conference scene. Giovanni Nacca provided Rosewood's other goal. Zack Naughton recorded Norwayne's lone goal. The Eagles (1-3-0 overall) face Wayne School of Engineering on Monday.

* Volleyball: Spring Creek d. Brogden 25-7, 25-19, 25-8 -- Virginia Edmondson and Shae Odom were the offensive leaders for the Gators in their WCMSAC Division I match. Spring Creek (3-1 overall, 1-1 WCMSAC) visits Grantham next Monday.

* Volleyball: Wayne School of Engineering d. Mount Olive -- Nadia Coles served seven aces during the Titans' three-set win. Haley Phillips cranked out three kills. WSE (3-1 overall) is the guest of Rosewood on Monday.

* Boys' soccer: Wayne School of Engineering 5, Mount Olive 1 -- Connor Pate recorded a hat trick (three goals) for the Titans. Teammates Lexton Lewis and Noah Hancock provided one goal apiece. WSE improved to 2-2-0 overall this season.
