Casper, in first varsity start, has career night for Gators

DEEP RUN -- Jessie Casper threw for a career-high 257 yards and accounted for four touchdowns as Spring Creek hammered South Lenoir, 35-14, in season-opening action Friday evening.
Casper scored TDs on runs of 8 and 54 yards in the second quarter. He connected with Najee Young and Dominique Morse on scoring strikes in the second half.
"It all starts with Jessie and he turned it on after the first quarter, kind of came into his own," SC head coach Aaron Sanders said. "(He) played really well for us. He was able to get the ball out and distribute to the tools around him."
Casper ended the night with 289 yards of total offense.
Jamaal Davis paced the Gators' ground attack with 47 yards and a second-quarter touchdown on just seven totes. JaVon Newsome and Najee Young combined for 51 yards on seven carries.
Young had three receptions for 106 yards, while Jamerion Dawson had four catches for 106 yards.
On the defensive side, senior linebacker Malik Sutton notched 12 tackles and forced a fumble. Xavion Garcia logged nine tackles, including two quarterback sacks.
Nick Strickland, Michael O'Hara and Spencer Jameson posted seven tackles apiece. Davis recorded a first-quarter safety for the Gators.
Spring Creek (1-0 overall) continues their four-game road swing Friday at Lejeune. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
