GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Incoming East Carolina freshman Zach Darden competed in the 2015 Southern Zone Long-Course Swimming Championships, and earned top-five finishes in seven events.

The sprinter helped his team, the East Carolina Aquatics, emerge as the Southern Zone champions in the 400- and 200-yard relays. ECA placed third overall in the 800 relay.

ECA secured fourth place in the 200 and 400 relays.

Individually, Darden swam six individual events. He wound up third in the 100 free, fifth in the 100 fly and sixth in the 50 fly. The Wayne School of Engineering grad also took seventh in the 50 free, nine in the 200 free and 11th in the 50 breaststroke.

Darden ended the meet as the highest-scoring male swimmer and helped ECA finish second overall among 37 competing teams -- a total of 450 competitors -- from 10 different states.
