ECBL: Wayne Country Day sweeps Bethel Christian

Wayne Country Day concluded its Eastern Carolina Baseball League campaign with a doubleheader sweep of Bethel Christian, 2-0 and 4-3, on a stormy Thursday afternoon.
John Strickland belted a two-run home run in the opener. Tucker Chapin, Ethan Chapin, Nick Neal, Amane Godo and Aoha Godo each provided one hit.
Neal emerged as the winning pitcher. The lanky right-hander held Bethel Christian, of the N.C. Christian Schools Association 2-A ranks, to four hits in five innings. He also recorded four strikeouts.
Jaxon Anderson smashed a two-run homer in the nightcap, while Ethan Chapin cranked out a solo home run. Tucker Chapin collected two hits. Neal doubled, while Strickland had a run-scoring knock.
Amane Godo contributed one hit.
Godo claimed the mound win. The right-hander yielded one earned run on five hits and one walk, and he retired five Bethel batters on strikeouts. Zach Barfield allowed two earned runs on three hits.
Strickland notched the save with one inning of one-hit relief.
Wayne Country Day concluded the season with a 14-6 worksheet that included four one-run losses.

* Barbara Hill earned game-of-the-week honors during play contested on the Lane Tree Golf Club links.
Lou Ellen Flowers captured low net. Mary Ann Sutton and Libby Newsome secured low putts and low gross, respectively. Mary Cotner and Sherry Minner both had chip-ins.
Minner, Flowers, Sutton and Linda Watson each carded birdies on the day.
