ECBL: Pikeville Orange, Snow Hill split twinbill

SNOW HILL -- Carson Smitherman cranked out two hits and scored three runs as Pikeville Orange defeated Snow Hill, 7-2, in game one of their Eastern Carolina Baseball League doubleheader Wednesday afternoon.
Snow Hill claimed the nightcap, 5-0.
In game one, Jordan Gay and Trey Jordan combined for a three-hitter on the James R. Fulghum Athletic Complex diamond. Gay permitted one hit and logged one strikeout in 22/3 innings of work. Jordan allowed two runs on two hits in 21/3 innings of relief.
Landon Casey (RBI), Chris Turner (three RBI), Cody Whaley (two RBI), Kaleb Moore and Chandler Gentry supplied one hit apiece. Pikeville took advantage of five walks. Turner added a sacrifice.
Orange managed just four hits in the second game -- two by Jake Flowers and one each by Nolan Harrell and Luke Frederick.
Landon Casey suffered the mound loss. Blake Gipson tossed two innings of relief. The duo combined to surrender five runs on four hits and two walks, each recorded one strikeout.
Pikeville Orange concluded the season 15-3 overall.
