ZEBULON -- Goldsboro native John Wooten belted a fourth-inning home run as defending Carolina League champion Potomac doubled up Carolina, 6-3, during their game at Mudcats Stadium on Thursday evening.
Wooten hit three HRs in the series.
The P-Nats trailed 2-1, but scored five earned runs on nine hits during a six-inning stretch. Narciso Mesa's two-out, two-RBI single helped spark the visitors' late offensive explosion.
An Eastern Wayne alum, Wooten batted 6-for-20 and struck out just twice during the four-game series against the Mudcats. He's batting .254 this season with 20 RBI and four homers.
Wooten, who was drafted by the Oakland A's in the 37th round in 2012. earned the Most Valuable Player award during the P-Nats' run to the Mills Cup Championship last season.
