BURLINGTON -- Sixth-seeded North Greenville (S.C.) University shocked regular-season champion University of Mount Olive, 14-8, in opening-round play of the 2015 Conference Carolinas baseball tournament Thursday evening.
The top-seeded Trojans (35-13 overall) opposed Belmont Abbey in an elimination-round game earlier today on the Burlington Athletic Park diamond. UMO must battle through the losers' bracket to earn its third consecutive automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional.
Kilgore Gailmard, Jason Morozowski (three RBI) and Joe Koehler (three RBI) paced Mount Olive's offense with three hits apiece. Zak Orrison (RBI), Justin Manning, Brett Lang, Stephen Wallace and pinch-hitter Chris Leduc each contributed one hit.
Morozowski and Koehler each swatted a home run.
Derek Justice (7-3) endured the mound loss. He permitted 10 runs (all earned) on nine hits and surrendered three home runs to the Crusaders. Jordy Farthing, Jose Serrano, Taylor Carr and Mark Harris combined for three innings of three-hit, two-strikeout relief.
