Early-afternoon and late-night storms postpone area games

Late afternoon rain storms rendered conditions unplayable and forced the postponement of several games scheduled in the News-Argus readership area Tuesday evening.
Weather permitting, teams will attempt to play those washed-out games today. A total of 18 events are on tap, including non-conference doubleheaders involving University of Mount Olive.
The Trojans, ranked No. 17 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Magazine Division II poll, entertain in-state region foe Wingate University today. Game one is 2:30 p.m. at Scarborough Field.
The UMO softball team is the guest of Chowan University.
On the prep side, South Central and Eastern Wayne (9-3 overall) lock horns on the Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference baseball scene. Game time is 7 p.m. in New Hope. Each team is 4-2 in ECC play this season.
The C.B. Aycock-New Bern games were also moved to today. The softball game starts at 4:30 p.m. in Pikeville, while the baseball game is slated for a 5 p.m. start at Boykin Field in New Bern. The Golden Falcons won the previous meeting against the Bears.
Spring Creek heads down the back roads to North Duplin for a pair of pivotal Carolina 1-A Conference contests. The Rebels are one of two unbeaten teams in softball and trail defending champion Princeton by 1/2-game in the standings. The Gators' lone loss occurred against Princeton.
In baseball, Spring Creek (5-5 overall) looks to hand North Duplin its first loss in conference play this season. Directed by first-year head coach Chuck Crumpler, the Rebels are 6-3 overall and 4-0 against league opposition.
The Princeton-Rosewood rivalry will be renewed on the baseball diamond today at Rosewood. First pitches are scheduled for 4 p.m. The softball game will be rescheduled.
Goldsboro hopes to make up its game today against Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference foe Ayden-Grifton.
