PIKEVILLE -- Hank Smitherman stole home with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, and Charles B. Aycock upended J.H. Rose, 2-1, in Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference play Monday afternoon.
Down 1-0 through 51/2 innings, the unbeaten Golden Falcons staged their game-winning rally in sixth. Bobby Hampton drew a one-out walk and advanced to third on Smithermn's double.
Ashton McGee plated Hampton with a single up the middle.
One out later and one strike in the count, Smitherman timed the play just right and stole home.
"Coach Allen Thomas made a great call on that," CBA head coach Charles Davis said.
Trent Herndon doubled in a two-hit performance. McGee and Smitherman each finished with one hit.
Bobby Hampton emerged as the winning pitcher on the mound. The senior surrendered one earned run on three hits and one walk, and retired nine Rampants on strikeouts.
Aycock (7-0 overall, 2-0 ECC) entertain D.H. Conley today.
