MOUNT OLIVE -- No. 7-ranked Franklin Pierce built an eight-run advantage through five innings and upended No. 14-ranked University of Mount Olive, 10-1, at Scarborough Field on Wednesday evening.
The teams split their two-game series.
Charles B. Aycock alum Tyler Farmer and Kilgore Gailmard paced the Trojans' offense with two hits apiece. Joe Koehler, Jason Morozowski and Justin Manning each contributed one hit.
Mount Olive (19-7 overall) avoided the shutout in the bottom half of the seventh inning, Gailmard connected on a lead-off single and advanced to third on Farmer's base knock.
Gailmard scored on a wild pitch.
Franklin Pierce's Mike Lundin hurled a complete-game seven-hitter for the Ravens, who avenged their lone loss of the season to the Trojans on Tuesday. He permitted one earned run and retired 10 UMO batters on strikeouts.
Lundin entered the game with 35 strikeouts, no walks, three hits and no runs allowed in 23 innings this season.
Matt Walsh emerged as FP's offensive leader with four hits. Jay Jabs (three RBI), John Razzino (RBI), designated hitter Chris LaVorgna (two RBI), Kyle Hood (two RBI) and Kurtis White (two RBI) each contributed one hit.
Mount Olive returns to action Friday for a three-game, Conference Carolinas road series at King (Tenn.) University.
